As part of DA McLaughlin’s goal for transparency and community involvement, we are excited to announce the 2nd annual 8th Judicial District’s DA Citizens Academy, which will be held March 28- April 20. Classes are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8 pm.
The DA Citizens Academy is an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at how the District Attorney's Office and the criminal justice system works. The Citizens Academy aims to:
- Enhance public understanding of the District Attorney’s Office by providing insights into the operations and procedures of the Office
- Empower community members to become more proactively involved with the criminal justice system and their respective communities
- Build and sustain a positive and collaborative relationship between the community and the District Attorney’s Office
Attendees will learn about the functions of district court, county court, specialized units, economic and elder abuse crimes, investigations, victim and witness services, diversion, and juvenile justice. They will also have the chance to learn the intricacies of a jury trial and participate in a short mock trial sitting as jurors.
*Classes are free and open to anyone 18+, and priority is given to those in Larimer and Jackson counties. Applications are now closed.
