Trail Stewardship Project - National Public Lands Day
Help our trail crew bring a section of trail back to a sustainable standard. Celebrate National Public Lands Day with us by assisting Larimer County Natural Resources Trail Crew with trail building and maintenance at the Sunrise Picnic Area at Horsetooth Reservoir (address 471 N Co Rd 23 #173, Fort Collins, CO 80526).
This area is popular for day-users and sees lots of use in the summer. This means wear and tear occurs on the trail, brush needs to be trimmed back, and erosion filled in. Volunteers will also help connect this area to another trail! Project will be of easy to moderate difficultly. Meet at the Sunrise Picnic Area parking lot.
Volunteers must be at least 16 to participate; a parent/guardian must sign a Minor Liability Release form on behalf of any minors in their party. Volunteers will need to be able to hike <1 mile carrying trail hand tools and supplies for the day. They will be using/swinging tools to move dirt, dig and create drainage features, use loppers/hand saws to remove vegetation, and/or any other kind of physical labor needed to build and improve the trail.
Volunteers will need to bring:
Sun protection (sunglasses, hat, sunscreen)
Work gloves (some will be provided)
Wear closed-toe shoes
Water & re-fillable water bottle
Insect repellant
Snacks
Clothing appropriate for the weather
Backpack (to carry it all)
Hand sanitizer (optional)
A day parking pass will be provided.
