The Chair of the Larimer County Board of Commissioners made a formal disaster declaration on Sunday, August 16, 2020, in anticipation of impacts from the Cameron Peak Fire. The declaration will be considered for ratification by the full Board of Commissioners on Tuesday, August 18, 2020.

The Cameron Peak Fire began on August 13, 2020, in northwest Larimer County, 25 miles east of Walden, and 15 miles southwest of Red Feather Lakes near Cameron Pass. The fire is burning in the Rawah Wilderness in the Roosevelt National Forest. 

A Type 2 Incident Management Team (IMT) is managing the Cameron Peak Fire.

"By declaring a disaster, Larimer County can activate our local Emergency Operations Plan to respond proactively to this emerging event," said Lori Hodges, Director of the Larimer County Office of Emergency Management. "It also allows us to access state and federal resources as needed during this event."
