Fort Collins Man and Juvenile Arrested for Attempted Murder
On July 3, 2021, at approximately 4:14 a.m., LCSO received a report of shots fired in the 2100 block of West County Road 54G in Laporte. Deputies responded and found multiple expended shell casings in the driveway of a residence. They also found bullet impact holes in the home and a vehicle on the property. A 20-year-old male resident told investigators he was outside the home and others were inside when the shooting occurred.
The investigation has revealed that a vehicle stopped in front of the home and two suspects fired in the direction of the home and the male. The suspects fled in the vehicle before deputies arrived. No one inside or outside the home was injured.
On July 8, LCSO Strategic Enforcement Unit (SEU) investigators secured a search/arrest warrant for an adult suspect, Rene Lozano (04/20/2000), and his residence in the 400 block of South Overland Trail in Fort Collins. Lozano was arrested at about 6:50 p.m. during a traffic stop near his home. Shortly after, the Larimer County All-Hazards / Crisis Response Team, Fort Collins Police Services SWAT Team, and SEU investigators executed the search warrant at Lozano’s home where both firearms used in the shooting were recovered.
Lozano was booked into the Larimer County Jail on allegations of Attempted 1st Degree Murder (class 2 felony), Attempted 1st Degree Murder – Extreme Indifference (class 2 felony), Illegal Discharge of a Firearm (class 5 felony), and two counts Crime of Violence. Bond is $300,000 and a booking photo is attached.
The second suspect was identified as a 17-year-old juvenile male of Fort Collins. An arrest warrant for Attempted 1st Degree Murder (class 2 felony), Attempted 1st Degree Murder – Extreme Indifference (class 2 felony), Illegal Discharge of a Firearm (class 5 felony), Possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender (class 6 felony), two counts Crime of Violence, Mandatory Sentence Offender, and Repeat Juvenile Offender was issued on July 8. He was taken into custody on July 9 in the 1600 block of Azalea Drive in Fort Collins at approximately 4:00 p.m.
