Fallen Climber Rescue
On Thursday, 11/4/2021, at about 2:20 in the afternoon, we received a report that an adult male had fallen near mile marker 108 of Highway 14 while climbing on the far side of the river with a friend. The climber’s safety gear had operated as intended and caught him before he fell the full height, but the climber still sustained an injury to his ankle and required assistance. Poudre Canyon Fire Protection District, Larimer County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services, UC Health TEMS, Larimer County Search and Rescue, and Larimer County Dive Rescue Team all responded to the call and were coordinated through the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center.
Rescuers were able to reach the fallen climber, secure him to a litter, carry him down the steep slope and across the river where he was transported for medical treatment of serious but not life-threatening injuries. The rescue took just under 4 hours, and we are grateful to our partner agencies who made this a successful mission.
