On February 28, 2022, at approximately 11:34 p.m., a deputy stopped a vehicle at City Park Avenue and West Mulberry Street in Fort Collins for a traffic violation.  The deputy spoke to the female driver and male passenger and then called for an LCSO K9 to assist.  The male and female were outside the vehicle as the K9 conducted an open-air sniff around it which resulted in probable cause for deputies to search the vehicle.

During the search, the male passenger ran toward a deputy and struck him in the face causing him to fall.  The suspect fled on foot and deputies pursued.  A deputy deployed a Taser to stop the suspect and he was taken into custody.  He was identified as Uriah Keith Ward (10/28/1982) of Fort Collins.

The search of the vehicle yielded suspected illegal narcotics and identification documents not belonging to Ward.  He was cleared by medical personnel at the scene and later booked into the Larimer County Jail on the following allegations:

2nd Degree Assault on a Peace Officer (F4)
Obstructing a Peace Officer (M2)
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (DPO)
Unlawful Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance (DF4)
Criminal Possession of One or More Identification Documents (M2)

Ward was released from the jail on March 1, 2022, after posting $300 bond.  A booking photo is attached.

The driver of the vehicle was released at the scene.

The injured deputy was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries to his face and knee.

The charges are merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until, and unless, proven guilty.
