The Eighth Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) has been activated to investigate an officer-involved shooting.

On the morning of 04/14/2022, an adult female reported to LCSO that earlier this week she was assaulted by a male suspect known to her, he had broken into her home, and was making threats of violence against her and her children.  She reported the suspect was most likely armed with a handgun.

The LCSO Strategic Enforcement Unit worked throughout the morning and into the early afternoon to locate the suspect. They tracked him to the Larimer County Landfill and attempted to contact him at approximately 1:55PM, at which time two deputies fired their weapons hitting the suspect. Deputies rendered aid to the suspect and called for emergency medical services to respond.  A handgun was recovered next to the suspect.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital and pronounced deceased. The Larimer County Coroner’s Office will release his name, cause, and manner of death at a later time. The suspect is not an employee of the landfill.

No deputies were injured during this incident.

CIRT was notified and has responded to take over the investigation. Fort Collins Police Services is the lead investigating agency and further information regarding this incident will be released by that agency.
