The Board of Larimer County Commissioners has identified Lorenda Volker as the preferred candidate in the Larimer County Manager recruitment process.

On Tuesday, July 12, the Board of Larimer County Commissioners will vote to appoint and approve the employment contract and consider the county manager's appointment during their regularly scheduled Administrative Matters meeting at 9 a.m.

“We are thrilled to announce that Lorenda Volker is our top candidate for Larimer County Manager. The input we received from community members, and the staff was invaluable as we made this important decision,” said Commissioner Kristin Stephens, Chair of the Larimer County Board of Commissioners.  “While all the finalists were qualified, Lorenda’s professionalism, compassionate leadership, and knowledge of the county made her our first choice. We look forward to working with Lorenda on our strategic plan, and many other initiatives that are important to county residents.”

Volker was selected to serve in the position by the board after an extensive search and interview process over the last few months.

She has been serving as Larimer County Interim County Manager since the retirement of Larimer County Manager Linda Hoffmann, who retired in April, with over 14 years of service with Larimer County, and just over 10 years as county manager.

“I am confident in our choice for Larimer County Manager. Lorenda Volker has been a dedicated, long-term leader in Larimer County management for over a decade. She has built trust and rapport throughout the county with relationships with other staff, organizations, and nonprofits,” said Larimer County Commissioner Jody Shadduck-McNally. “Lorenda has the experience and is respected and affable. Since my service as a county commissioner began, she has been welcoming, a source of trusted information, and shares my love of Larimer County. Larimer County has much to celebrate from her work done previously. Still, we also have some complex challenges ahead, which I feel with Lorenda as our county manager, we can address with innovative solutions. I am excited to continue to work alongside her as we move forward.”

Commissioner John Kefalas remarked on the decision, "Lorenda Volker is more than qualified to be our next Larimer County Manager, and I believe we made the best choice. She is competent; has the experience and established relationships, understands the importance of community engagement, and works well with the county commissioners. There are many critical and complex issues before us, and continuity is necessary and smart."

Volker has been with Larimer County since 2008, first as Director of Human Resources and then Assistant County Manager. She led Larimer County’s Internal Services and Human and Economic Development departments in addition to working on behavioral health and rural broadband efforts. Previously Volker also worked for two cities in Florida in oversight of human resources, collective bargaining, and public works functions.
