On Sunday, July 10th, 2022, at about 9:30 p.m., an inmate assaulted a deputy. The deputy was performing a routine status check of the inmates when Timothy Howell (DOB: 05/21/88) ran at and attacked the deputy from behind. The deputy was able to disengage from Howell and presented his Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW) along with commands to stop the attack. Howell again approached the deputy who deployed his CEW.  Additional deputies arrived and were able to gain control of Howell. The deputy received minor injuries during the attack but did not require medical attention.

Stemming from this incident, an allegation of CRS 18-3-203(1)(f) 2nd Degree Assault – Peace Officer (Felony 4) has been filed with the District Attorney’s Office for prosecution of Howell.

“I am grateful that no one was seriously injured during this inmate attack.  This is a great testament to the deputy’s mindset and training that is provided to staff.  I am continually impressed by the actions taken by deputies during any inmate-on-deputy assault,” said Jail Administrator Captain Bobby Moll.

All allegations are merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until, and unless, proven guilty. A booking photo is attached.
