LCCC operates a wide range of conservation programs throughout the year, focused on enhancing and restoring public lands and open spaces. Projects include trail construction and maintenance, habitat restoration, fire mitigation, invasive species removal, and other land stewardship efforts across Northern Colorado.

From May through October, LCCC runs AmeriCorps conservation crews for young adults ages 18–30. Each crew is composed of a Crew Leader, an AmeriCorps Assistant Crew Leader, and 6–8 AmeriCorps Crew Members. Crews typically camp near their project sites Monday through Thursday and work four 10-hour days each week.

In addition to crew-based programs, LCCC annually hosts Individual Site Placements (ISPs), where participants work independently with partner agencies on specialized conservation projects. LCCC also employs a five-member Winter Strike Team dedicated to fire resiliency and mitigation work.

Forestry Crew

Forestry Crews receive S-212 Chainsaw and Wilderness First Aid certifications prior to operating chainsaws to implement forestry management plans. These crews complete fire mitigation, tree removal, and post-fire restoration projects throughout Larimer County. A notable ongoing project includes fire mitigation work at the Ben Delatour Scout Ranch, aimed at reducing wildfire severity and protecting watershed health in the event of a fire. Crew members also earn S-130/S-190 wildland fire certifications during their season.

These crews typically operate June through mid August, August through October, and June through October.

Individual Site Placements

Individual Site Placement participants work directly with partner agencies on targeted or technical conservation projects. In 2025, LCCC hosted four ISPs with the National Forest Foundation (NFF) and four with the U.S. Forest Service (USFS).

NFF placements focused on reforestation efforts by increasing seed inventory and improving data collection within the Cameron Peak and East Troublesome Fire burn areas. USFS placements supported Recreation Management teams through trail construction and maintenance, as well as OHV education and safety initiatives across the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests.

These positions operate May through November and June through mid September.

Land Crew

The Land Crew works on the widest variety of projects among LCCC crews, including trail construction and maintenance, invasive species management, fisheries maintenance, and ecological restoration. Projects take place on local, state, and federal lands throughout Northern Colorado, with opportunities for camping during portions of the summer season.

These crews typically operate June through mid August and August through October.

Strike Team

LCCC’s Strike Team is a five-member crew that supports fire resiliency efforts in Northern Colorado communities, including Glacier View Meadows, Crystal Lakes, Cherokee Meadows, and the Poudre Canyon Fire Protection District. The team conducts fire mitigation and fuels reduction work, develops community firewood bank systems, and assists with Home Ignition Zone assessments.

This team operates November through May.

Trail Crew

The Trail Crew specializes in trail construction and maintenance on public recreation lands throughout Northern Colorado. For the past five years, the crew has focused on repairing and maintaining trails impacted by the Cameron Peak Fire. The crew primarily serves and camps in the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests and Rocky Mountain National Park, with additional day projects at Lory State Park and Larimer County–managed trail systems.

These crews typically operate June through mid August, August through October, and June through October.
