Larimer County Extension

Extension offices are a partnership between a land-grant university & a county agency. In our case, that partnership is between Colorado State University & Larimer County.  

This partnership brings information & resources from CSU to you.  This could come in the form of fact sheets, consultations, workshops, & more.  All our services are offered at low to no cost. 

This report highlights some of the outreach & educational programs Larimer County Extension brought to the community in 2022.

Two New Positions Created:

4-H Program Coordinator (STEM/Juntos)

Diana Castro Gonzalez coordinated the piloting of the Juntos 4-H program in Larimer County. The program's goal is to increase Latino student success by:

• Reducing high school drop-out rates
• Increasing the number of high school graduates
• Increasing the opportunity to attend a university or technical school

Retail Food Safety Program Coordinator

Analecia Vasquez was hired in partnership with the Larimer County Workforce Center & the Larimer County Health Department to bring much-needed food safety training to Larimer County.  After starting in March, Analecia taught over 135 people in 2022.

Larimer County Farmers' Market

• 2022 Season: May 21st - October 29th, 200 W. Oak Street, 9am - 1pm
• 57,383 customers (not including children)
• $26.53 average customer purchases per visit
• $1,460,463 gross sales in 2022 (12.62% increase)
• 75 average vendors per market

Food Preservation & Nutrition

• 42 in-person & virtual classes
• 1,053 people reached
• 10 workshops recordings uploaded & available on the new website

Horticulture & Larimer County Master Gardeners

• 86 Tree Team visits
• 24 Lawn Checks & HOA visits
• 77 yard & garden classes
• 5,005 Master Gardener volunteer hours
• 15 sweet pepper varieties tested in the Pepper Trials
• 4,783 lbs of produce donated through Grow & Give

Market Days for Older Adults

Addressing food insecurity among older adults while supporting local agriculture. 

• 225 older adults served
• $19,250 to local growers
• 1,281 bags distributed
• 260 volunteer hours

Healthy Aging & Senior Access Points

• 10 Aging Master workshops offered in Spanish
• 2,833 English & Spanish materials distributed
• 4,031 visits to Larimerseniors.org to view resources for older adults

4-H Youth Development

• 847 members
• 16 graduates of the Juntos 4-H pilot program
• 40+ projects supported
• 271 volunteers leaders
• National Competitions: 
  • Six members qualified for the 2022 4-H Shooting Sports National Championships.
  • Five members qualified for the National Western Roundup.

Retail Food Safety

Courses were offered in person/online & in English/Spanish.

• 11 Certified Food Protection Manager courses
• 10 Food Safety Works courses

Health & Wellbeing

• 170 participants in 8 radon awareness programs
• 28 mental health & wellness classes

Agriculture & Natural Resources

• 30 Small acreage management site visits
• 6 Building Farmers & Ranchers participants
• 324 one-on-one consultations (office visits, phone calls, emails)

Family Leadership Training Institute

The Family Leadership Training Institute (FLTI) reduces barriers to civic participation. Graduates learn the civic skills they need to make a difference in their community. Classes are offered in English & Spanish.
