Upcoming Election Key Facts
  • Only those who VOTE will decide the outcome.
    • For example, if 50 total employees vote AND 26 employees vote yes, all 200+ employees will be represented by AFSCME.
  • You can only vote in person.
  • Your vote is completely anonymous.
  • The state conducts, oversees, and tabulates the election. Neither the union nor the County will see individual votes.

Election Dates:

The election is being held in the Breckenridge Room at 2307 Midpoint Drive, and will be open during the following dates and times:*

Tuesday, 3/25, from 12pm - 7pm
Wednesday, 3/26, from 7am - 7pm
Thursday, 3/27, from 7am - 12pm

* Please note times are different each day.

If the majority of the votes case is “Yes” to the formation of the union:

  • The state certifies the results.
  • Negotiations for a contract begin between the County and the union representing employees.
  • Negotiations may include wages, hours, and other employment conditions.
  • Once an agreement is reached, a contract is ratified.
  • All employees in the bargaining unit will be subject to the new terms, regardless of how they voted.

If the majority of votes cast is “No” to the formation of the union; no further action is taken, and a bargaining unit is not formed.


FAQs

  1. Is my vote actually anonymous?

    Your vote is completely anonymous, and the election is conducted, overseen, and tabulated by the state. Neither the union nor the County will see individual votes; only the final election outcome.

  2. I voted against the union, by the majority voted for the union. Do I have to be a part of the bargaining unit?

    Even those who voted "no" or did not vote are included in the bargaining unit and bound by the agreed terms.

  3. What will the union dues be?

    If the union is voted in, employees will decide at that time the cost of union dues, or if there are any.

  4. Who is allowed to vote in the election?

    Employees in the following job titles are not eligible to vote:

    Alternative Sentencing Director, Assistant Director Community Corrections, Business Operations, Supervisor, Business Operations Manager, Clinical Director, Community Corrections Director, Community Justice Alternatives Director, Community Justice Manager, Community Justice Supervisor, Training Coordinator and Treatment Services Supervisor

    Employees in all other job titles are eligible to vote.
