  • Employees may engage in occasional and minimal discussions and activities during their paid time related to union activity similar to occasional and minimal personal discussions like, the weather, catching up after the weekend, and chatting about hobbies.  As with all personal discussion topics:
    • Such discussion or activity must not be disruptive or impact productivity.
    • Employees need to be respectful of their co-workers.
  • Time spent beyond occasional and minimal discussion related to union activity is unpaid - unless specifically identified in a Collective Bargaining Agreement, should be performed outside the employee's regularly scheduled work hours, on scheduled breaks, or with an approved request for time off or flex time.

Employees may use County facilities to meet/engage in union activity.  

  • County rooms must be reserved using the County's room reservation calendar.
  • If a room is reserved for union activity but is subsequently needed for official County business, the County shall attempt to locate another nearby County room that will accommodate the County business.  However, if the County cannot reasonably locate an alternative location, the employee will need to reschedule or relocate an available room.
  • It is expected the condition of the room after use will be equivalent to before the room was utilized, this includes room set up, cleanliness and condition of equipment.

County technology/resources such as the internet and computers and communication tools such as email and/or Zoom may be used for union activities (similar to personal use).  Use must comply with County policy applicable to the resource or tool utilized. If assistance is needed with technology, we encourage the employee to submit a service ticket to ensure appropriate support is provided.
