  • Benefited Employees and Appointed Officials accrue vacation leave with pay on the basis of continuous accumulative service.
  • Newly hired eligible employees will begin accruing vacation leave with the first full pay period of employment.
    • As a recruiting aid, a Decision Maker or designee may authorize up to 15 days of vacation leave to be granted to the eligible employee upon hire.  For periods of leave up to ten (10) days, before granting the vacation leave, the Decision Maker or designee must obtain approval of the Human Resources Director or designee.  For periods of leave of more than (10) days, before granting the vacation leave, the Decision Maker or designee must obtain approval of the County Manager or designee.
  • Eligible employees must be in a paid status for at least half of their regularly scheduled work hours in a pay period to accrue vacation leave.  However, employees on FMLA qualifying leave for at least half of the pay period (either with or without pay) or who are absent due to a work-related injury or illness will continue to accrue vacation leave during the leave time.
  • Upon separation, employees are paid for all accrued vacation leave.  Employees will be paid using their current pay rate at the time of separation.
  • Maximum Carryover Limit: Please refer to the Benefits Policy, Vacation Leave, Carryover Limit.
