HR

Merit increases are granted to employees who are not at the top of their established pay range and who receive a standard or above performance rating on their evaluation. Employees who receive a rating of Below Expectations will not be eligible for a Merit increase.

Most new hires will receive a probationary Performance Review at six months (nine months in some instances), and will receive a Salary Review with possible Merit increase at twelve months. Thereafter, employees will receive a Performance and Salary Review each year on their review date.

Merit increases will be effective the first day of the pay period in which an employee's Next Salary Review date in UKG falls.

Standard Merit increases do not apply to employees who are on the Sheriff’s Step Plan. In addition, some departments give variable merit increases based on department pay plans rather than the standard merit increase.

Merit increase amounts are determined annually based on recommendations by the compensation specialists in Human Resources and approval by the Board of County Commissioners.

For standard Merit increase amounts for the current year, see the Compensation page.

SUPERVISORS PLEASE NOTE:

Merit increases are automatically imported for employees based on their scheduled Review dates in UKG.   Employee evaluations must be completed in Neogov Perform by the next Performance Review and Next Salary Review dates for all employees.

If you are aware that an employee may not receive a standard or above performance rating on their evaluation, contact your generalist as soon as possible so that they can prevent the Merit increase from being imported.
