OEM Coordinator Kohl Parrott wins award from ESRI

Talented Office of Emergency Management Coordinator Kohl Parrott developed a robust situational awareness tool that has proven very useful to our office! This tool utilizes ArcGIS data layers to provide real-time situational awareness to us regarding weather and hazard impacts in Larimer County. We can see everything from wildfires to lightning strikes in this tool, which better allows us to make informed decisions! The tool was aptly named "Argos" after the hundred-eyed giant, Argos Panoptes from Greek Mythology. Much like the name implies, this tool allows us to truly be "all-seeing!"

Argos was submitted as part of the Esri Emergency Management Solutions Challenge, and Kohl was selected as the winner. Upon winning, Kohl was awarded this rad Esri National Security and Public Safety Challenge Coin, and additionally was asked to demo the tool before the North Central All-Hazards Emergency Management Region (NCR) group at the beginning of the month. Congratulations Kohl, and thank you for making Larimer OEM proud & forward moving!

This tool is not 100% public facing quite yet, currently one must have an ArcGIS account to access it in its full capacity, however we are working on making it have full public access as we speak! Keep checking back on the OEM webpage, as we will hopefully have a link to it very soon!

The Board of Larimer County Commissioners acknowledged Larimer County Children, Youth and Families Division Manager Thad Paul for receiving the Colorado State University College of Health and Human Services [CHHS] Outstanding Alumni Award.

One of three recipients, Paul received the award at the annual CHHS banquet on November 10, 2018.

The annual award is presented to those who have distinguished themselves while bringing honor to Colorado State University in their careers. “I’m very humbled by the honor,” said Paul.

He received a B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies in 1998 from CSU and has worked tirelessly for 22 years as an advocate for children in Child Welfare and Juvenile Justice.

A person with tremendous compassion, Paul and his team work daily to reduce the number of child abuse neglect cases --- especially with children in very challenging situations --- while always striving to keep children in a family setting. “Thad and the people that work for him do some of the most important work in local government, and frankly, the most difficult work,” said Larimer County Commissioner Tom Donnelly.
