Below, you'll find an overview of the hiring process for each position type. We encourage you to review the steps carefully so you know what to expect as you move forward. 

  • Individuals applying for employment with LCSO must go through a thorough pre-employment selection process.  
  • Convicted felons or individuals with illicit drug use in the past 5 years cannot be considered for employment.  
  • All applicants are required to have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Applicants must be at least 21 years of age for Deputy positions.
  • For Jail Deputy applicants only: after completing the online application, you will receive an invitation for an asynchronous video interview. Interview invitation email will contain further details.

  • Background investigation
  • Polygraph exam

Phase Five

  • Captain's Interview*
    *If eligible to move forward, you may receive a conditional offer of employment. You will then be schedule for psychological testing, medical exam, and a drug screen.

  • In order to be eligible for a Lateral position, Jail applicants must have a minimum of 2 years corrections/jail experience, and Patrol applicants need a minimum of 3 years Patrol experience to be eligible.

  • All applicants are required to have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Applicants must be at least 21 years of age for Deputy positions.
