LCSO Wellington Squad

The Town of Wellington’s contract with LCSO provides a sergeant, a corporal and 8 deputies, who make up LCSO’s Wellington Squad and provide patrol services for the town.

Members of the Wellington Squad focus on establishing a community oriented police presence within the town. Deputies are responsible for traffic enforcement, criminal law enforcement, and providing limited animal control duties when the Town's Neighborhood Services Officer is unavailable. They enforce Wellington's Municipal Ordinances in addition to applicable county, state and federal laws.

Responsibilities include:

  • Law enforcement
  • Crime prevention
  • Emergency response
  • Criminal investigations
  • Community policing
  • Patrolling

Deputies in the Wellington Squad conduct their patrol duties using marked patrol cars, bicycles and foot patrols.

Desk services

A desk deputy is assigned at the Wellington substation (3735 Cleveland Ave.) to provide walk-in services from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

VIN verifications are conducted by the desk deputy at the substation during these hours. Appointments are required for VIN verifications and can be made by calling 970-498-5311.

A VIN inspection through LCSO costs $20. In addition to the vehicle itself, you must bring either the vehicle registration or the title to the vehicle and your driver's license. The fee is $20 and can be paid by cash, check, money order, or credit card (additional convenience fees for credit card payments). Payment is required prior to service.

School Resource Officer

One deputy from the Wellington Squad is assigned as the School Resource Officer for Poudre School District’s Wellington schools.

The School Resource Officer instructs safety programs at the public schools located in Wellington, investigates criminal activity on school grounds and attends school activities.

Other resources for services

When deputies assigned to the Wellington Squad are not on duty or need additional deputies to respond to calls for service, deputies respond from other districts in the county. Similarly, additional services are provided to the Town from all other divisions of the Sheriff's Office (i.e., major case investigations, forensic services, All Hazard/Crisis Response team resources).

Deputies assigned to the Wellington Squad have a substation at 3735 Cleveland Ave. in Wellington, where they are able to complete many of their administrative tasks without driving to the main Sheriff's Office Administration Building in Fort Collins.
