Update: Additional Charges for Suspect in Armed Barricade Case
A Fort Collins man faces additional felony charges in last week’s armed barricade case in northwest Fort Collins.
On August 7, 2025, Larimer County Sheriff’s Office deputies and local partners worked for 13 hours to safely get Kevin Lee Walker out of a house where he had barricaded himself. Walker previously received notification that he was being evicted from the home, which he was renting, but he refused to comply with the court order.
When deputies attempted to contact the suspect, they found that the doors and windows had been fortified with boards, and locks had been tampered with to prevent entry. After using tools to enter in accordance with the court order, they found Walker pointing a long gun and threatening to kill them. Deputies took cover outside until additional resources arrived. Over the next several hours, Walker barricaded himself in the basement while texting threatening messages to family members and crisis negotiators.
In an effort to get him to come out peacefully, the Crisis Negotiation Team communicated with Walker throughout the incident. With the assistance of the Larimer County All-Hazards/Crisis Response team and Fort Collins SWAT, deputies successfully removed Walker from the basement around 10:15 p.m.
The home sustained damage during the incident as law enforcement worked to safely access the suspect, who remained uncooperative throughout the incident. After obtaining a search warrant, investigators entered the home and discovered several large, set animal traps positioned throughout the house.
Walker was booked into the Larimer County Jail on multiple misdemeanor and felony charges. Additional charges have since been filed. He faces the following:
- First Degree Burglary (class 3 felony)
- Attempted First Degree Assault - Attempted Serious Bodily Injury with a Deadly Weapon (class 4 felony) - 5 counts
- Felony Menacing (class 5 felony) - 5 Counts
- Failure or Refusal to leave premises or property upon request of a Peace Officer (class 1 misdemeanor)
- Harassment (class 2 misdemeanor) - 2 counts
- Obstructing Government Operations (class 2 misdemeanor)
- Obstructing a Peace Officer (class 2 misdemeanor)
- Resisting Arrest (class 2 misdemeanor)
Walker was issued a $10,000 cash-only bond by the Larimer County Court.
“When you’ve got an armed, uncooperative person hiding in a basement, there are no easy buttons,” said Sheriff John Feyen. “Our incident team showed significant patience and restraint during a long, extremely hot, and tactically difficult situation. Thanks to the extensive efforts of law enforcement and our partners, nobody died. Every single peace officer, firefighter, and medic on that call went home safely to their family. The suspect lived to have his day in court. Protecting lives is our highest priority, and the team accomplished that mission despite the many challenges they faced.”
Charges are merely an accusation, and defendants are presumed innocent until, and unless, proven guilty.

“This was an incredibly challenging day, but our first responder community rose to the occasion,” said Larimer County Sheriff John Feyen. “This positive outcome wouldn’t have been possible without their seamless collaboration, strong tactical decision making, and unwavering commitment to public safety. I know this was an inconvenient day for many surrounding residents, and I sincerely appreciate their patience and understanding while we worked to keep their neighborhood safe.”
