Celebrating the 19th Amendment, which gave some women the right to vote, was remembered at the Larimer County  League of Women Voters Equity Day celebration.

Larimer County Commissioner Kristen Stephens and league member Anne Thompson were honored at the celebration for their leadership and service to our community.

Held at the Sunset Winery in Loveland, the celebration also included an auction, and the Keynote speaker was the Executive Director of Neighbor to Neighbor, Kelly Evans.

Stephens was chosen for her work in our community, specifically for her efforts in promoting transparency in elections, advocating for voting rights, and encouraging citizen engagement in voting. Over the last few years, Stephens has worked to help people understand more about local government and how local government is where most of the hard work is done to improve our lives.

“This year I celebrated 10 years as an elected official. Some of the most important work I have done in my role as a city councilmember and county commissioner has been opening government to more people,” said Larimer County Commissioner Kristin Stephens. “I was honored to receive this award from the League of Women Voters, and I take it as a call to action to speak up for vulnerable people, to encourage civic engagement, and to make government more transparent.”

But the work is not done. Women are still not equal in some ways under the law, and encourage all women to raise their voices for equality.
