The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fire on Highway 14 in Bellvue. One home was destroyed, and investigators found a deceased person inside.

Just after 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, Larimer County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch received a report of a fire in the 8700 block of West Highway 14 (Poudre Canyon Road approaching Greyrock Trailhead). Poudre Canyon Fire Protection District firefighters, LCSO deputies, UCHealth EMS, and LCSO Emergency Services personnel responded.

The fire was estimated at less than one acre and was contained just before sunrise. In light of red flag fire weather conditions, the LCSO Phantom Canyon wildland crew stayed at the scene for the remainder of the day to finish mopping up and prevent any reignition.

One home was destroyed and is believed to be the fire’s point of origin. The cause remains under investigation. Due to the extreme heat and extensive damage to the structure, investigators were initially unable to determine if anyone had been inside the home when it burned. Crime scene investigators processed the property and conducted a full forensic excavation of the rubble, which concluded late Tuesday night. Sadly, they did locate human remains. LCSO is working with the Larimer County Coroner to identify the individual. The Coroner’s Office will release that information, as well as the person’s cause and manner of death, at a later time.

During the fire, a voluntary evacuation was issued for surrounding homes and was sent to 591 contacts (devices signed up for emergency alerts). Deputies also went door-to-door to notify residents in the immediate area. The voluntary evacuation was lifted around 3:50 a.m. People can sign up to receive emergency alerts at www.nocoalert.org.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Sgt. Chad McGuire at 970-498-7041. People who want to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers of Larimer County at 970-221-6868 or www.stopcriminals.org. LCSO would like to thank the Loveland Police Department, Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control, and ATF for their assistance with the ongoing investigation.
