A suspect was arrested Monday after eluding law enforcement, driving the wrong way on Interstate 25, and causing multiple crashes.

On September 15, 2025 around 12:30pm, Larimer County Sheriff’s Office deputies attempted to stop a vehicle for traffic violations in south Loveland. The suspect refused to stop and began eluding deputies. He then began driving recklessly, going south in northbound lanes of I-25, causing multiple vehicles to crash. Deputies performed a PIT maneuver (precision immobilization technique) to stop the car and safely took the driver into custody. Another adult was also in the vehicle; she was not injured and was released from the scene.

During the incident, a motorcyclist crashed to avoid the suspect vehicle. The rider was transported to an area hospital for care and has since been released. I-25 was closed for a period of time due to the investigation.

The suspect, identified as Thomas Mazza (DOB 07/14/1994), was arrested and booked on the following charges:

  • Vehicular Eluding - Results In Bodily Injury To Another (class 4 felony)
  • Vehicular Eluding (class 5 felony)
  • Attempted Criminally Negligent Homicide (class 5 felony) - 5 counts
  • False Imprisonment - (class 2 misdemeanor)
  • Drove Vehicle While Under The Influence Of Drugs (unclassified misdemeanor)
  • Domestic Violence (enhancer)

A booking photo is attached. During his subsequent court hearing, it was noted that Mazza was out on bond for two other cases. The District Attorney’s Office requested a $100,000 cash-only bond, which the Court issued.
