Update in Search for Missing Paddleboarder at Horsetooth Reservoir
Update (09/09/2025): Late Monday evening, a deceased person, believed to be our missing paddleboarder, was located in Horsetooth Reservoir.
The Larimer County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the person, as well as cause and manner of death, at a later time.
Horsetooth Reservoir was closed for a period of time due to the recovery, and has since reopened.
On Sunday, September 7, a report came in of a missing paddleboarder at Horsetooth Reservoir, near Satanka Cove. Larimer County Parks, Poudre Fire Authority, Larimer County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Larimer County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services, Colorado Parks and Wildlife units and the Larimer County Dive Rescue Team responded to the area to search for the missing person. The paddleboarder was not wearing a personal flotation device.
Crews searched the area where the paddleboarder was last seen, and utilized drones, boats, and sonar in an attempt to locate the missing person. Unfortunately, at this time, search efforts have turned into a recovery for the paddleboarder. Satanka Cove and the surrounding area remains closed due to ongoing recovery efforts.
