The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal crash that occurred after a suspect eluded law enforcement early Sunday morning.

Just after 4:15 a.m. on February 1, 2026, an LCSO deputy noticed a vehicle that was missing lights and a license plate. The deputy turned around to stop the car near East 57th Street and North Garfield Avenue in Loveland, but the driver turned off all the vehicle’s lights and sped away before the deputy could initiate a traffic stop.

The deputy activated his lights and sirens, but the suspect refused to stop and continued to elude law enforcement for several miles. Deputies pursued as the driver traveled at high speeds up to 120 mph on northbound I-25. The vehicle exited at Mountain Vista, and after several turns, began driving east on Vine Drive/Weld County Road 84.

The driver lost control of the vehicle near the intersection of Pheasant Crest Drive and WCR 84. The car struck a power pole and rolled, ejecting two male occupants. One of the men was pronounced deceased at the scene. The other man was transported to an area hospital where he died. A third person was inside the vehicle; she was extricated and transported to an area hospital for care. No other injuries have been reported.

Deputies did not make contact with the vehicle or use any intervention techniques prior to the crash. The LCSO CRASH team and Forensics Unit responded to process the scene. The Weld County Coroner’s Office will identify the two men at a later time.

LCSO would like to thank the Colorado State Patrol, Timnath Police Department, Fort Collins Police Services, Poudre Fire Authority, and UCHealth ambulance crews for their assistance during this incident.
