Ensuring every family has a place to call home.

At today’s Administrative Matters meeting, the Larimer County Board of County Commissioners officially proclaimed April 2026 as Fair Housing Month. This annual designation is more than a formality; it is a reaffirmation of our commitment to ensuring that every resident, regardless of their background or family status, has equal access to safe and stable housing.

Why Fair Housing Matters

While the Fair Housing Act was passed decades ago, many families in our community still face barriers to securing a home. Discrimination based on familial status or income level remains a challenge, often disproportionately affecting those who are already vulnerable.

By making this proclamation, the Board aims to:

  • Increase public understanding of housing rights and the long-term impact of discrimination on children.
  • Support policies that prevent discriminatory displacement before it happens.
  • Encourage the community to support the local organizations working on the front lines of this issue.

Highlighting the Bridge to Stability

This year, the County is proud to spotlight the Family Housing Network (FHN) and their Sherwood House program. Sherwood House provides critical bridge housing; a vital stepping stone for families with children transitioning from homelessness toward permanent self-sufficiency.

Programs like these exemplify the spirit of Fair Housing Month by providing the stability and dignity necessary to break the cycle of homelessness for the next generation of Larimer County residents.

Get Involved

We encourage all residents to join us this month in affirmatively furthering fair housing. Whether through volunteering with local service providers, donating to housing networks, or simply educating yourself on fair housing laws, your involvement helps build a more inclusive community.
