Zoom Security Update for External Guests
Please be advised that Zoom is implementing a security update on July 31, 2026, that will affect external guests joining Larimer County meetings or webinars via a web browser.
Note: This change only impacts users joining via the web browser and does not affect those using the Zoom desktop or mobile applications.
What is Changing?
Zoom is replacing the traditional interactive CAPTCHA puzzles with an invisible, background security check to evaluate external web guests. If the system flags a user as potentially suspicious, it will skip the puzzle entirely and require them to sign into a Zoom account before they are allowed to join the meeting or webinar.
What Triggers the Sign-In Requirement?
External guests are more likely to be flagged by the background check—and subsequently required to log in—if they are:
Operating in Incognito or Private browsing mode.
Using an unsupported web browser. Click here for a list of Zoom’s supported browsers.
Connected via a network that restricts Zoom firewall rules or uses certain VPNs.
Resolution for Affected Guests
If an external partner, panelist, resident, or other guest encounters this prompt, they will need to sign in to an existing Zoom account, or create a free account at https://www.zoom.com,
