The Larimer County Department of Health and Environment (LCDHE) is seeing an elevated number of human West Nile virus-related hospitalizations in Larimer county this year. The Health Department advises residents to take precautions to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes.

The first monkeypox case in Larimer County has been identified by the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment (CDPHE). CDPHE is the lead agency on this investigation and is completing the contact tracing associated with this case. Larimer County Department of Health & Environment’s (LCDHE) role is to facilitate vaccination of any high-risk exposures identified by CDPHE as part of their investigation. The risk of monkeypox to the public is low.

The first positive West Nile virus mosquitoes of the year in Larimer County have been detected. The positive mosquito pools were found in the southeast and southwest areas of Fort Collins. So far this year, no human cases of West Nile virus have been reported.
