Behavioral Health Services' 2025 Annual Report: Honoring our commitment to community well-being, Larimer County’s dedicated behavioral health tax

Larimer County Behavioral Health Services (BHS) has officially released its 2025 Annual Report, providing a comprehensive look at the progress made in strengthening the local behavioral health system. This report serves as a vital tool for accountability and transparency. It demonstrates the department’s commitment to voters, who in 2018 approved the ballot initiative that created the dedicated, 20-year behavioral health sales and use tax.

A Milestone Year for Crisis Care

A defining achievement of 2025 was the opening of the adolescent crisis stabilization unit at the Larimer County Behavioral Health Services Acute Care facility at Longview campus. This facility is made possible by a public-private partnership between Larimer County and SummitStone Health Partners, which provides behavioral health services. The adolescent unit expands much-needed local crisis care for youth ages 12-17, featuring five dedicated beds (soon to be eight) and specialized therapeutic support. Since its opening in late 2023, the Longview campus has seen 16,786 total visits to its behavioral health urgent care, with 80% of those visits coming from Larimer County residents.

Investing in the Community

Stewardship of taxpayer dollars remains at the forefront of BHS’ work. In 2025, the tax generated an estimated $24.5 million in revenue. These funds have a direct impact:

  • $17.7 million in grants have been awarded to 77 community organizations since the Impact Fund Grant Program’s inception. BHS awarded $3 million to 42 organizations in 2025 alone to fill critical service gaps, and enhance and expand care.
  • BHS is building upon its investments in the annual grant program and Longview campus with the addition of the Synergy Fund and multi-year initiatives.
  • Early data indicates real success, with 79% of screened clients at the Acute Care facility at Longview campus showing major improvement in depressive symptoms at discharge.

Looking Toward the Future

As BHS transitions into its 2026-2030 Strategic Plan, the vision is to make Larimer County a community where people are empowered and supported in accessing a full range of behavioral health services that promote well-being for all. Through continued partnership and community-driven investment, Larimer County is building a landscape of hope and belonging for all residents.
