The Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 (PREA) is the first United States federal law dealing with the sexual assault of prisoners. Larimer County Community Justice Alternatives, comprised of Community Corrections and Alternative Sentencing, is committed to a safe and secure environment for all of its residents and staff. This commitment includes a zero-tolerance policy for all forms of neglect and abuse, including harassment, assault, bullying, and sexual abuse.

Our facilities are designed and our staff is trained to assure that this commitment protects all offenders in our custody; as well as all guests and visitors, who come to our buildings.

All reports of neglect, misconduct, and abuse are taken seriously, and we are committed to investigating each report to the fullest extent possible — through administrative and, if appropriate, criminal channels. If you wish to report anonymously, channels for such reporting are also available. All anonymous and third-party reports are investigated with the same level of commitment as any other report.

In order to maintain a culture of safety and accountability, we have set up several different ways in which anyone — offender, staff, or the public — can report neglect, misconduct, or abuse in either Community Corrections or Alternative Sentencing. Substantiated allegations of sexual misconduct that approach a criminal threshold will be referred to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office for full investigation. Allegations which are screened for criminal charges but are not brought forward for charges will be investigated administratively through Community Justice Alternatives and Larimer County Human Resources processes.
