Adaptive Adventure Hike
A fun, yet challenging hiking adventure, open and inclusive for civilian and veterans. A day enjoyed outdoors that celebrates community, partner collaboration and pushing to thrive.
Join us for a sunset hike. Lets explore the dramatic landscape of Devil's Backbone as we hike the Morrison Loop in west Loveland. Join Larimer County Naturalists for an up-close exploration of the geology of Devil's Backbone Open Space. Learn more about the area's distinct rock formations that formed hundreds of millions of years ago. As we traverse the trail, you'll learn the basics of Earth's history through the colorful rock layers, which have been uplifted by geologic forces to create the Backbone's striking landscape. And, of course, we'll talk about dinosaurs too!
Participants will hike the 0.5 mile Morrison Loop with opportunities to extend the hike for those interested. Meet at the pavilion by the Morrison Loop trailhead. This activity is rated: Easy/moderate: slow pace, limited shade, soft surface trails have some exposed rock with 55' elevation change. Pit toilets and potable water are available at the trailhead.
Who can attend?: Registered participants, including civilians, veterans, and youth over 5 who are living with a physical disability, and families or caregivers.
Expectations: Must be able to self-transfer up or down by 12+ inches; must be comfortable in group spaces and noise; must be 18 years or older to participate.
How should I dress? Please comfortable layers conducive to physical activity, closed toe shoes, and
What should I bring? Participants are recommended to bring a water bottle, sunscreen, and hat, as well as any personal gear utilized for adaptive hikes.
Timeliness: All participants, volunteers, and community partners are expected to register for each event, arrive on time, and be ready for program start. Please notify staff in case of cancellation, running late, or any other event.
