Suspect Safely Arrested After 13-Hour Standoff
A suspect was safely arrested after a 13-hour standoff in northwest Fort Collins on Thursday.
Around 9:20 a.m. on August 7, 2025, Larimer County Sheriff’s Office deputies were serving a court-ordered eviction at a home in the 2600 block of Laporte Avenue. The occupant, Kevin Lee Walker (DOB 09/18/69), was previously informed about the eviction order but had not moved out. When deputies tried to contact him Thursday, he refused to come outside. After making announcements for an hour, deputies entered the house in accordance with the court order. Walker appeared and pointed a long gun at them. The deputies took cover outside and called for additional law enforcement resources.
The Larimer County All-Hazards Crisis Response Team, Fort Collins SWAT team, crisis negotiators, UAS (drone) operators, UCHealth EMS, Poudre Fire Authority, and officers from Fort Collins Police Services, Colorado State University Police, Johnstown Police, and Timnath Police responded to assist. An emergency alert was sent to the surrounding area advising people to shelter in place while law enforcement worked to safely resolve the situation.
The interagency team worked throughout the day and into the evening, using verbal commands, less lethal tools, and other efforts to resolve the standoff. Law enforcement ultimately took the suspect into custody around 10:15 p.m. He was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries, then booked into the Larimer County Jail on the following charges:
- First Degree Assault - Threatening Peace Officer with Weapon (class 3 felony)
- Felony Menacing (class 5 felony)
- Failure to Leave Premises (class 2 misdemeanor)
- Obstructing a Peace Officer (class 2 misdemeanor)
A booking photo is attached. Charges are merely an accusation, and defendants are presumed innocent until, and unless, proven guilty.
“This was an incredibly challenging day, but our first responder community rose to the occasion,” said Larimer County Sheriff John Feyen. “This positive outcome wouldn’t have been possible without their seamless collaboration, strong tactical decision making, and unwavering commitment to public safety. I know this was an inconvenient day for many surrounding residents, and I sincerely appreciate their patience and understanding while we worked to keep their neighborhood safe.”
