Evan King Found Not Guilty
Yesterday, a jury found Evan King not guilty of three counts of Sexual Assault of a Child by a Person of Trust.
In July 2024, Evan King was arrested after two students came forward about inappropriate touching at the hands of Mr. King. Fort Collins Police conducted a thorough investigation and arrested Mr. King. A press release went out following his arrest, due to his role as an educator, law enforcement was concerned that there could be additional victims.
A trial began on August 25th. It included testimony from both victims, school officials who had received the report, an expert in forensic interviewing for children who have been sexually abused, and many others. After a five-day trial, the jury determined that it could not find Mr. King guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
Victims of sexual assault, especially children, face numerous obstacles when it comes to reporting the abuse. Many victims express fear of not being believed, which may lead to a delay in or forgoing reporting to law enforcement.
In this case, the victims showed incredible bravery in telling their story—to school officials, to law enforcement, and then in front of a jury. Victims in Larimer County should know these cases will be investigated, and we will do everything we can to support victims.
“We respect the jury's decision that they could not find Mr. King guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and thank them for their service,” said District Attorney Gordon McLaughlin. “It takes a great deal of courage for victims of abuse to come forward, especially children abused by someone in a position of authority, and I commend them for telling their story. I also want to thank Fort Collins Police for their investigation and the members of our team who fought for the victims and for justice.”
