As the focus shifts to recovery from the Alexander Mountain Fire, the Larimer County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) will be the primary contact for community resources and support. The Joint Information Center closed at noon on August 8 and will not re-open unless new needs arise. Anyone with questions about recovery or other fire-related support needs should call the OEM Recovery Line at 970-980-2800.

Effective August 7th, 2024, firearms instructors are now required to undergo a verification process by their local county sheriff in order to teach the required class for a citizen to receive a concealed handgun permit (CHP). The portion of the bill requiring citizens to take a class from a verified instructor was effective July 1, 2025. A list of all current, verified instructors can be found here.

As of the evening of August 5, the Alexander Mountain Fire is estimated at 9,668 acres with 74% containment, per the Southwest Incident Management Team. 536 fire personnel were assigned to the fire today. Aided by the light precipitation, firefighters continued working on containment efforts, as well as finding and extinguishing hot spots within the burn area.
