The criminal investigation into the actions of a former Loveland Police Department officer has concluded.

On May 20, 2023, a handcuffed female was in police custody and spit on LPD Officer Russell Maranto, who then struck her. On May 21, Loveland Police Chief Tim Doran requested that the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office conduct a criminal investigation into the officer’s actions.

The Loveland Police Department terminated Maranto’s employment on May 23. LCSO’s criminal investigation was conducted independently of LPD’s internal review.

New Policy Regarding Parcels and Books

To eliminate parcels as a method of introducing drugs into the facility, starting Tuesday, September 20, 2022, the Jail will no longer be accepting any parcels addressed to inmates, including those from external businesses. All parcels will be returned to the sender.

The facility will expand the selections made available on the e-library. The facility will also continue to make paper books available on the book carts.

To make a recommendation for the e-library, inmates can submit a request. If an e-book is a non-fiction religious, political, philosophical, or educational book, and does not present a security/safety risk to the facility, the jail will purchase the e-book based on the inmate’s recommendation. The facility will not deny e-books based on speech content.
