Humans have been managing the resources of Ramsay-Shockey Open Space for generations, but what does management look like today, and why is it even necessary? Attend this hike to learn more about how Larimer County Department of Natural Resources manages this property and why. How do we deal with weeds, wildlife, and humans? Find out!

This is part of the "Get to Know" series at Ramsay-Shockey Open Space. Topics include ecology, history, and how Larimer County Department of Natural Resources manages this property.

Participants will hike the Shoshone Loop (approximately 2 miles). This hike will be moderately difficult, traveling over unpaved trails, uneven surfaces, moderate elevation gain, and may include mud. Most of the trail is shaded and pit toilets are available. There is no potable water.

Program is free, but registration and parking pass ($10/day) is required. You can also check out a free Discover Pack from one of our offices or your local library and use the included temporary parking pass to visit the park for free: https://www.larimer.gov/naturalresources/discover-pack
This location does not have a pay station, so make sure to stop by the Administrative Offices (1800 S County Rd 31, Loveland), which are right on your way, or the Blue Mountain Trailhead (at Pinewood Reservoir, the first trailhead) to buy one.

Carpooling is recommended as parking is limited.

Participants should bring:
Sun protection (sunglasses, hat, sunscreen)
Wear comfortable hiking/walking shoes (closed-toe recommended)
Water
Insect repellant (optional)
Snacks
Clothing appropriate for the weather
Backpack (to carry it all)
