Health

The child care and school health and safety programs help protect public health by inspecting schools, child care centers, and other places that serve children. They also work to ensure these places follow state regulations by providing education and enforcing the rules.

  • We follow Rules and Regulations Governing the Health and Sanitation of Child Care Facilities in the State of Colorado to inspect child care centers. This includes checking how food is prepared and served, as well as reviewing general cleanliness, disease prevention, and safety measures at the facility.
  • Use the Rules and Regulations Governing Schools in the State of Colorado to inspect all schools from kindergarten to 12th grade. Inspections cover the condition of school grounds, water safety, sewage and trash disposal, pest control, plumbing, equipment and supply safety, food service, hazards in labs, art, and vocational areas, health services, and the operation of mechanical systems.
  • Review construction plans and inspect new or extensively remodeled institutional operations.
  • Conduct illness outbreak investigations and follow up on public complaints.

The Health Department staff is here to support you from the start. Following all regulations is required, so understanding what needs to be done can save you time and money. We’re here to help you get it right the first time. The Department of Human Services also requires approval from the Health Department before issuing a license.

Schools are required to submit plans and specifications prior to starting construction, remodel or operation.
