LOVELAND — The Larimer County Department of Natural Resources (LCDNR), in partnership with the Central Federal Lands Highway Division (CFLHD), is initiating preliminary staging work at Carter Lake in preparation for a multi-year, multi-phase construction project aimed at improving roads and enhancing visitor access at both Carter Lake and Horsetooth reservoirs. The project is partially funded through the Colorado Federal Lands Access Program (FLAP).
Larimer County Department of Natural Resources (LCDNR) is pleased to share that the Bay to Bay Trail at Horsetooth Reservoir opens to the public Friday, May 23.
This spectacular trail travels the peninsula at the southern part of Inlet Bay to the existing swim beach at South Bay, connecting two popular areas through 1.8 miles of natural surface trail.
Larimer County Department of Natural Resources in partnership with City of Fort Collins Natural Areas, and City of Loveland Open Lands & Trails encourage responsible recreation with dogs as visitors hit the trails with their canine companions this spring.
The Hermit Park Open Space campground will be closed to new reservations April 22- 24 due to roadwork. Current reservations for campsites and cabins will be honored during this time. Thank you for your patience as we work to make improvements.
Northern Colorado – Larimer County’s Department of Natural Resources is pleased to announce it has completed efforts to conserve three contiguous ranches totaling 4,856 acres of high ecological and scenic value in Livermore, Colorado. The ranches are being conserved in partnership with the landowners via conservation easements to permanently protect their high-quality wildlife habitats, water resources, scenic views, and agricultural values.
LOVELAND – Larimer County Department of Natural Resources (LCDNR) announces that boatramps at county reservoirs have begun to open for the season with a slight pause this week due to winter weather.
Larimer County Department of Natural Resources (LCDNR) has completed its adaptive management plan for Chimney Hollow Open Space (CHOS). This plan will guide how the open space and reservoir are developed in preparation for a public opening in 2027, as well as how the open space will be managed for nature-based access and ecological values into the future.
Due to ongoing site improvements and road construction currently in progress, the following campgrounds and areas are impacted. Visitors are encouraged to arrive early, utilize other areas of the reservoir that remain unimpacted, and follow signage:
Eagle Campground: Upper two loops can be booked from 0–14 days in advance. Campers may only go in and out the main entrance. No access or entry via the Overflow Parking Lot. Day-Use Area is closed until further notice.
North Pines:Campground and Day-Use Area are closed until further notice.
Big Thompson Campground: The campground is transitioning into day-use parking and will not offer camping. The area is currently closed until further notice.
South Bay & Inlet Bay Campground: During active construction there will be limited parking and single-lane access.
