Larimer County Department of Natural Resources (LCDNR) invites the community to join us as we celebrate National Public Lands Day on Saturday, Sept. 27 and throughout the preceding week.

Community members are invited to participate in a litter cleanup project in the Carter Lake area, which includes Carter Lake, Flatiron, and Pinewood reservoirs. A family-friendly event, the volunteer project open to all ages.

The 2026 grant cycle is now open for Larimer County Department of Natural Resources (LCDNR) Small Grants for Community Partnering Program. For 27 years, the program has awarded grants to communities throughout Larimer County using a portion of the Help Preserve Open Space sales tax for nature-based neighborhood and community projects. Since its inception, the program has awarded over $445,000 across 246 projects throughout Larimer County.

Enjoy an evening with members of the Northern Colorado Astronomical Society (NCAS) for an up-close look at the night sky over the Rockies. Telescopes will be available for viewing stars, galaxies, planets and more! Bring the whole group to connect with the wonders of the night sky.

This open house-style program is located at Horsetooth Mountain Open Space (entrance on County Road 38E). Telescopes will be set up in the paved parking lot. Program is free but a parking pass is required. Registration is encouraged.

Lots of things make people feel safe, like a cozy blanket, a stuffy, and our favorite people. But what makes animals feel safe? A good home! This month, we'll explore the places wild animals call home and what they need to feel safe.

A parent or guardian must accompany the child for this program. Registration is required but program is free.
