The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with CorrHealth, North Colorado Health Alliance, The Willow Collective, and a network of 30+ community organizations in the Stone Soup Community Reentry Coalition, recently secured a $600,000 grant from the Colorado Attorney General's Office. This funding, part of the Opioid Abatement Innovation Challenge Grant, will fuel the Stone Soup Community Reintegration Initiative for the next two years.

In 2020, over 56,000 people overdosed on fentanyl in the United States (Voices for Awareness). Unfortunately, Larimer County has not been immune to the impact of this illegal substance, experiencing its effects on our community firsthand.

Yesterday, Dan Bontz was announced as the newest Advisory Board member for Voices for Awareness. Dan is a seasoned Police Officer with the Loveland Police Department.  With a career spanning two decades in law enforcement, his wealth of knowledge and experience brings welcome insight to the mission of the organization.

On January 11, 2024, Fort Collins officers and detectives served a search warrant and arrested a suspect in the recent string of arson and criminal mischief cases within the TimberVine and Collins Aire Park neighborhoods. A juvenile male was contacted in the area and detained. After further investigation, the juvenile male was transported to the Larimer County Hub and booked on the following charges:

• 1st Degree Arson – Residence – Endanger Life (F3) – two counts

• 1st Degree Arson – Residence – No Endanger Life (F4)

• Criminal Mischief - $20,000 - $99,999 (F4)

On Saturday, January 6, 2024, at approximately 8:15pm, a Larimer County Jail deputy was conducting routine inmate status checks and discovered an unresponsive male in his cell. Additional deputies and jail medical staff responded and successfully resuscitated the male. He was then transported to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. The 44-year-old male was the only inmate in the cell.

The Larimer County Coroner’s Office will release the man’s identity, as well as cause and manner of death, at a later time.

Sheriff John Feyen announced today that County Sheriffs of Colorado, Inc. (CSOC), the state Sheriffs Association, will award a $500 scholarship to a deserving Larimer County student this spring. CSOC established the scholarship program in 1978. Since then, this effort has continued as a meaningful expression of the sheriffs’ confidence in and respect for education and training. CSOC considers this an investment in the future and believes that our membership is helping to provide deserving students with an opportunity to make a positive contribution to society.
