There has been confusion about new requirements in the 2020 National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) Article 210.8 (F) potentially causing nuisance tripping for some outdoor HVAC equipment using Variable Frequency Drives. Both the National Fire Protection Association and the Colorado Electrical Board have addressed this issue, in somewhat conflicting ways. To clear up the confusion and align as much as possible with other Colorado jurisdictions, Larimer County will adhere to the temporary variance issued by the state electrical board.
