Yesterday, Aaron Lambertus was sentenced to 20 years in the Department of Corrections for Attempted First Degree Murder - Extreme Indifference, a class 2 felony, which included a “crime of violence” sentence enhancer for his use of a handgun during the crime. Mr. Lambertus pled guilty on September 24th.

Daniel Quinn was sentenced today to Sexual Assault in the 3rd Degree. Mr. Quinn was a former deputy district attorney for the 8th Judicial District Attorney's Office in the 1990s. This case was handled by the Weld County District Attorney's Office and further details of the agreement are available through their office. Per the rules of special prosecutions, our office was not involved in the resolution. We have and continue to stand with the victim in this case and fully support their efforts to receive justice.

District Attorney’s offices in the 8th, 13th, 14th, and 19th judicial districts are happy to announce a new grant-funded initiative to help combat auto theft throughout the northern part of Colorado. This initiative includes the of hiring two positions, a prosecutor and an investigator, to work with prosecution and law enforcement agencies throughout this region. The funding for these positions comes from the Colorado District Attorney’s Council to support the efforts of addressing auto theft crimes in our area.

Yesterday, Harold Stoltzfus was sentenced to an indeterminate sentence of 10 years to life in the Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to one count of Sexual Assault on a Child (In a Position of Trust with a Victim Under the Age of 15). The Special Victim Unit team secured Mr. Stoltzfus’ guilty plea on August 26th of this year. An indeterminate sentence is a sentencing option for some sexual offenses that authorizes the department of corrections to determine Mr. Stoltzfus time in prison beyond the ten year minimum. This could result in a life sentence.

Today, Alexis Mendez was found guilty of multiple counts following an incident in January of 2024 by a jury in the 8th Judicial District. On January 24th, 2024, Ms. Mendez was pulled over by a Larimer County Sheriff’s Deputy in Loveland after driving without headlamps at night. During the traffic stop, Ms. Mendez provided a false name to the deputy and tried to walk away from the scene against instruction.

On Tuesday, October 23rd, Jose Luis Ramos was found guilty on 11 different counts including Sex Assault (10-Year Age Difference) and a variety of drug charges by a jury in the 8th Judicial District. In late 2023, Fort Collins Police Services began monitoring Mr. Ramos for drug distribution due to unusual traffic in and out of his home. FCPS searched Mr. Ramos’ home and found evidence of several minors who had been receiving drugs from Mr. Ramos.

Jason Wahlstrom was sentenced today to 20 years to the Colorado Department of Corrections, for distributing fentanyl which resulted in the death of a 27-year-old man in October 2023. The 8th Judicial District Attorney’s Office secured Wahlstrom's guilty plea to Fentanyl Distribution Causing Death, a Class 1 Drug Felony on August 28, 2024.
