UPDATE: DAMIEN JACKSON SENTENCED TO 220 YEARS Today, Damien Jackson was sentenced to 220 years in the Department of Corrections for the following charges: • (3) Attempted First Degree Murder- After Deliberation (F2) • (2) Attempted First Degree Murder- Extreme Indifference (F2) • (3) Assault in the First Degree- Threaten a Peace Officer with a Weapon (F3) • (5) Menacing with a Real or Simulated Weapon (F5) • (1) False Reporting- Fire/Emergency/Exit Alarm (M2) • (1) Resisting Arrest (M2) • (1) Obstructing a Peace Officer (M2) • (1) Reckless Endangerment (M2) The sentences for the first five counts are required by law to run consecutively, as each represents an individual victim. The jury reached its verdict on August 1st. The full details of Mr. Jackson’s crimes can be found below. “Not only did Mr. Jackson nearly take the lives of five members of our community, including three members of law enforcement, but he has also repeatedly taken zero accountability for his actions and would remain a significant risk to the community,” said District Attorney Gordon McLaughlin. “I am incredibly proud of our team for securing convictions on all 17 counts and ensuring the safety of Larimer County. And I am extremely grateful to the bravery of our law enforcement officers who protected two innocent civilians and resolved this incident safely.”

Yesterday, a jury found Kenneth Piper guilty of murder in the second degree, a class two felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a drug petty offense, following a seven-day trial.

On the evening of October 17th, Loveland Police officers responded to an apartment after reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found that Justin Boothe had been shot and killed by his uncle, Kenneth Piper. Mr. Piper was then charged with murder in the first degree, after deliberation, which also included the charge of murder in the second degree.

The Crawford Center is a local nonprofit agency whose mission is to prevent and respond to abuse and victimization through proven child-centered methods, professional forensic interviews, and collaborative advocacy. Michael Lee Hester was sentenced today to three years of supervised probation, 24 days in jail, 240 hours of community service, and ordered to pay the full amount of $27,691, after pleading guilty to three counts of aggravated animal cruelty, a class four felony, and three counts of agriculture animal theft, a class four felony.

Oscar Perez Jr. was sentenced today to 40.5 years in the Department of Corrections, after pleading guilty to one count of murder in the second degree, a class two felony, two counts of criminal attempt to commit murder in the second degree, a class three felony, and one count of menacing, a class five felony.

Today Stephen Masalta was sentenced to three years in the Department of Corrections after serving one year in the Larimer County Jail for one count of Attempted Sexual Assault on a Child (F5) and two counts of Indecent Exposure (M2). Masalta entered a guilty plea in September 2024. As a part of his agreement, once released, Mr. Masalta will be required to register as a sex offender in the State of Colorado, have no contact with anyone under the age of 18, and not have unsupervised internet access.
