Jason Wahlstrom was sentenced today to 20 years to the Colorado Department of Corrections, for distributing fentanyl which resulted in the death of a 27-year-old man in October 2023. The 8th Judicial District Attorney’s Office secured Wahlstrom's guilty plea to Fentanyl Distribution Causing Death, a Class 1 Drug Felony on August 28, 2024.

In 2023, the Larimer County Sheriff's Office conducted several sting operations to catch predators looking to assault children. A sting operation is a law enforcement tactic where an officer poses as a child online looking to engage in sex, however, there is no actual child involved at any stage. Our office supports these operations, and the work law enforcement does to protect our citizens from offenders who may be abusing or are planning to abuse children.

Ampelio Arangure was sentenced yesterday to 20 years in the Colorado Department of Correction, following a guilty plea to one count of Sex Assault on a Child-Pattern of Abuse, a class 3 felony, and one count of Attempted Sex Assault on a Child, a class 5 felony. Following his sentence in the Department of Corrections, Mr. Arangure will be required to register as a sex offender and have no contact with anyone under the age of 18, beyond his own child. Mr. Arangure entered his guilty plea on July 15th, 2024.

Kendall Landsen was sentenced today to 20 years to the Colorado Department of Corrections, followed by three years of parole for distributing fentanyl which resulted in the death of a 28-year-old man in November 2023. The 8th Judicial District Attorney’s Office secured Landsen’s guilty plea to Fentanyl Distribution Causing Death, a Class 1 Drug Felony on June 26, 2024.

The Victim Assistance and Law Enforcement Board of the 8th Judicial District has announced the grant application for funding in 2025. These grant dollars are for agencies that serve crime victims in Larimer and Jackson Counties.

Michael Dale Paustian was sentenced on July 19th to 8 years to life in the Colorado Department of Corrections. This sentence is what is known as an indeterminate sentence, meaning that he will first become eligible for release to parole at the completion of the 8-year sentence, but can be held in custody for the remainder of his life. The Department of Corrections determines when he will be released.

Robert P. Denise Jr. was sentenced today to 16 years to the Colorado Department of Corrections followed by 10 years of Sex Offender Intensive Supervision Probation following a guilty plea to three counts of sexual exploitation of a child, a class three felony. The 8th Judicial District Attorney’s Office secured Denise’s guilty plea on April 4th, 2024.
