Fourth warrant clearance and community resource event a success

On April 6th, the 8th Judicial District hosted its fourth Warrant Clearance Event and community resource fair. This event was sponsored by the 8th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, the Office of the State Public Defender, the 8th Judicial District Judicial Branch, and the Loveland Municipal Court.

National Crime Victims' Rights Week is April 21-27

The 8th Judicial District Victims' Rights Week Committee will host two events to celebrate National Crime Victims' Rights Week. This year's theme is How Would You Help? The 2024 theme asks all of us --- friends, family members, neighbors, colleagues, community leaders, victim service providers, criminal justice practitioners, and health professionals --- how we can help crime victims.

Tyler Joseph Zanella Sentenced to 12.5 Years

Tyler Zanella was sentenced today to the maximum of 12.5 years, with 10.5 years in the Colorado Department of Corrections with a preceding 2 years in the Larimer County Jail following a guilty plea to the top charge for each of his victims.

Carlos Juarez Martinez Sentenced Today

Carlos Juarez Martinez was sentenced today to 10 years of Sex Offender Intensive Supervision Probation following a guilty plea to one count of Invasion of Privacy for Sexual Gratification, a class 6 felony.

Gordon McLaughlin Calls on Congress to Avert Cuts to Victim Crime Act

District Attorney, Gordon P. McLaughlin, joined over 700 prosecutors across the country to call on Congress to avert funding cuts to Victims of Crime Act grants. This comes after his trip to Washington DC to meet with Colorado delegates about this issue.

Announcing Coffee Chats

To continue to increase our opportunities for community engagement, the 8th Judicial District Attorney’s Office is proud to announce our new Coffee Chats program.

On the fourth Thursday of each month, District Attorney, Gordon McLaughlin will host Coffee Chats at various coffee shops throughout Larimer and Jackson Counties. Each chat will have a topic relevant to our community and will give attendees a chance to ask questions and learn more about the work of the District Attorney’s Office.

Bron Austin Deal Sentenced

Bron Austin Deal was sentenced today to 60 days in the Larimer County Jail, 4 years of supervised probation as an Economic Crime Offender, and ordered to pay $24,617.18 in restitution following a guilty plea of Theft, a class 5 felony, and Fraud In Effecting Sales, a class 2 misdemeanor. The 8th Judicial District Attorney’s Office secured Deal’s guilty plea on January 19th, 2024.

Victor Benavente Sentenced

Victor Benavente was sentenced today to 15 years to the Colorado Department of Corrections following a guilty plea of Burglary 1, a class 3 felony. The 8th Judicial District Attorney’s Office secured Benavente’s guilty plea on February 1, 2024.

Fentanyl Distribution Causing Death Case

Andrea Branco was sentenced today to ten years in the Colorado Department of Corrections for selling the fentanyl that killed Kara Gorman on September 1, 2022. The 8th Judicial District Attorney’s Office secured Branco’s guilty plea to Fentanyl Distribution Causing Death, a Class 1 Drug Felony, on August 8th, 2023, and she faced open sentencing with a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Amanda Duhon was awarded the Prosecutor of the Year, Robert R. Gallagher Award by the Colorado District Attorneys’ Council. Selected from over 800 prosecutors across Colorado, she was presented with the award at the 2023 annual conference by District Attorney Gordon P. McLaughlin.

Crime Victim Compensation Board Seeks New Board Member

The Crime Victim Compensation (CVC) Board for the 8th Judicial District is seeking a volunteer community member residing in Larimer or Jackson counties to serve a three-year term. Those interested in applying will need to complete an application and include a resume and letter of interest. The application is available online and will close on Wednesday, September 6, at 11:59 p.m.
