This property has a combination of riparian corridor, wetlands, agricultural fields, and bluffs, which create a diverse plant and animal habitat. It is also the site of an old oxbow formed by the nearby Cache La Poudre River. This oxbow was abandoned in the late 60s or early 70 when the river was channeled to build a bridge across it. River Bluffs Open Space is currently recognized by the Colorado Division of Wildlife as a significant duck winter range.
Crafted by the Estes Valley Land Trust, this conservation easement covers land in the Tahosa Valley. The property contains 3 beautiful meadows and a small stream on 160 acres near the Longs Peak campground and trailhead. The land is not open to the public, but the easement protects important wildlife habitat and a visual corridor to Longs Peak. This conservation easement was made possible by a generous bequest. Many people, as part of their last will and testament, choose to leave part of their estate to endeavors such as this.
