The goal of the Crime Prevention Unit is to work with community members, neighborhoods, churches, schools, and businesses to provide information and best practices in crime prevention.

The LCSO Cadet Program is designed for youths between the ages of 15 and 20 years old. This volunteer program gives youth the opportunity to learn from people in law enforcement about the variety of careers in the field, while also encouraging youth to be strong leaders in their community. The program has been in existence approximately 20 years, and they are active with LEEPAAC (Law Enforcement Explorer Post Advisors Association of Colorado). Cadets volunteer approximately 4,000 hours per year at various events.

Reserve Deputies are dedicated to protecting the lives and property of our community by serving as a volunteer unit within the Patrol Division at the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office.

The Training Unit provides extensive training for all sworn and civilian personnel. In 2023, the unit oversaw and/or coordinated almost 62,000 hours of training.
The unit works closely with the Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) board to ensure our deputies are completing and maintaining state approved training in all levels and certifications.
Training topics include domestic and international terrorism, report writing, emotional survival, firearms, arrest control tactics, supervisor leadership, employee wellness, and disaster recovery.
The primary goal of the LCSO Public Information Office is to provide timely information of value to the community. This is accomplished through press releases, social media postings, media interviews, and interaction with community members.

The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office Crime Lab and Evidence Unit is part of the Investigations Division and is comprised of four full-time lab personnel, as well as two full-time evidence custodians. In addition to in-house storing and processing of evidence, our personnel contribute professional resources to the Northern Colorado Regional Forensic Lab. Our lab personnel are also part of the Critical Incident Response Team for the 8th Judicial District and are involved in the investigations of critical officer-involved incidents.
The Strategic Enforcement Unit is comprised of one sergeant, two investigators, and two patrol deputies assigned to the Investigations Division. The mission of the unit is to assist the Investigations, Patrol, and Jail divisions with non-traditional investigations. These include fugitive apprehension, human trafficking investigations, covert surveillance, street-level criminal interdiction, assisting patrol with identified problem areas, assisting the jail with introduction of contraband investigations, and assisting the Northern Colorado Drug Task Force.
