The General Investigations Section is staffed by a lieutenant, two sergeants, 11 investigators, a deputy responsible for sex offender registration, and three sheriff’s services technicians.  The section handles complex cases requiring extensive, time intensive follow up or follow up outside of Larimer County.  Investigators do not typically initiate cases on their own, rather, cases are assigned by the unit sergeants and are usually referrals from LCSO patrol deputies, other law enforcement agencies, or the Department of Human Services.  On average, the section clears approximately 200 ca

The Larimer County Sheriff's Office, in partnership with Poudre School District (PSD) and Thompson School District (TSD), operates a School Resource Officer (SRO) program.  Specially trained deputies are assigned to schools located within the towns of Berthoud, and Wellington, as well as those in unincorporated Larimer County.  

The training focuses on school safety and security, conflict resolution, handling crime within the schools, teaching classes, and helping families locate the resources necessary to raise healthy children. 

The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office is one of three area agencies who staff and maintain the Northern Colorado Bomb Squad. The other two participating agencies are Fort Collins Police Services and the Loveland Police Department.

Deputies are assigned to the Bomb Squad for a minimum of five years and are trained by the FBI and the U.S. Army. Assignment to the Bomb Squad is in addition to a deputy's regular duties.

The Town of Berthoud contracts with the Larimer County Sheriff's Office for law enforcement services. The contract provides for one sergeant, one corporal, and four deputies to provide patrol services for the town with support from all other divisions of the Sheriff's Office. Two additional deputies are assigned as School Resource Officers at the high school and middle school. 

The Town of Wellington contracts with the Larimer County Sheriff's Office for law enforcement services. The contract provides for one sergeant, one corporal, and seven patrol deputies to provide patrol services for the town with support from all other divisions of the Sheriff's Office.

The Larimer County Sheriff's Office Traffic Safety Unit is comprised of one sergeant and four deputies. The primary objective of the unit is to increase community awareness of traffic safety issues. This is done through educational programs and equitable and appropriate traffic statute enforcement.

Over the last decade, the Larimer County Regional SWAT Team has been engaged in an increasing number of activities that fall outside the realm of traditional SWAT.  We have learned that much of our training, specialized equipment, and small unit command & control principles also apply to other unique public safety problems.  In recent years, we have been deploying more often to HAZMAT incidents, natural disasters, search & rescue missions, and other unique situations that benefit from our specialized capabilities but do not fall within the traditional role of SWAT.  This culminated with the
