On the morning of September 27, 2023, deputies received information that an unknown suspect had spray-painted the parking lot of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Berthoud. A vehicle parked at a house across the street was also spray-painted overnight. The graffiti depicted phallic images, obscene language, and anti-Mormon sentiments.

The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal fire that occurred overnight in Red Feather Lakes.

Just after midnight on September 27, 2023, LCSO Dispatchers received reports of a possible explosion and visible flames near Piney Knolls Drive in Red Feather Lakes. LCSO deputies and Red Feather Lakes Fire Protection District firefighters responded to the area and located the fire on a private residential lot. They began working to extinguish a small camper, which was fully engulfed.

Deputies rescued several animals and arrested a Fort Collins woman in a cruelty and neglect case.

In late August, the Bureau of Animal Protection contacted the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office regarding the welfare of livestock at a property in the 2900 block of West Mulberry Street. LCSO deputies and a Bureau of Animal Protection veterinarian visited the residence to investigate.

Search efforts for Mr. Powers continued on Friday, September 22 but yielded no new information.

In addition to LCSO personnel, search resources included 12 people from Larimer County Search and Rescue, 4 SAR dogs, 6 searchers from Rocky Mountain National Park, and a drone operator from the Loveland Police Department.

Teams covered every trail between the Dunraven area and Rocky Mountain National Park. All ridges and drainages within a two mile stretch were also checked, and drone operators searched a significant distance from the air on both Thursday and Friday.

Updates are available in the suspicious death investigation.

On Sunday, September 10, 2023 around 10:18 a.m., Dispatch received a report of a person lying on the Foothills Trail near Horsetooth Reservoir. First responders located the man, who was deceased. The Larimer County Coroner’s Office identified him as Paul Gallenstein, 64, of Fort Collins.

An autopsy found that Mr. Gallenstein’s death was caused by a gunshot injury. Investigators are still working to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident, and the manner of death has yet to be determined.
